SC Amends Hindu Succession Act; Daughters to Get Equal Rights in Parental Property
The Supreme Court on August 11, ruled that daughters and sons will have equal legal rights in 'parental property', even if the father died before the Hindu Succession (Amendment) Act 2005 came into force i.e September 9, 2005, contradicting its previous judgement. The apex court said that, ''Daughter remains a loving daughter throughout life. The daughter shall remain a coparcener throughout life, irrespective of whether her father is alive or not".
