Maharashtra: 60% Rise In Leopard Deaths; Man-Animal Conflict Tripled
Maharashtra Forest Department has recorded 174 leopard deaths in 2020, a 60% increase from the last year. Of the total 174 leopard deaths, 85 died naturally, 64 succumbed to accidents and 18 cases of poaching were registered till December, 2020. Besides, the data also revealed that leopard deaths in road/train accidents have doubled. Moreover, seeing the three-fold rise in man-animal conflicts, the department has planned to constitute a study group to address the issue.
