Masks, Protective Gears Emerging As Threat To Wildlife: Ecologists
Posing threat to wildlife, the life-saving masks are now turning deadly for fauna. PETA’s Ashley Fruno said the non-biodegradable masks, which will not be phased out soon, are choking the wildlife. Citing animals getting tangled and recovery of masks from their stomach, ecologists have alarmed the people over threat of unsafe disposal of masks. Going by OceansAsia data, over 1.5 billion masks amounting to 6,200 tonnes of plastic wastes have already been discarded in oceans.
