NCF Reports Over 85% Leopards Captured In Karnataka Were Translocated
Nature Conservation Foundation's report revealed 268 of 357 leopards captured by Karnataka forest officials were translocated during 2009-2016. Reportedly, of all the leopards captured, atleast 29 got killed in man-animal conflicts. Experts opined livestock killing, traps, and big-cat sightings in human dwellings were major issues. However, it was reported that despite Environment Ministry's 2011 guidelines to discourage leopard's capturing and translocation, 64% forest-guards were unaware of rules, whereas just 1.9% followed them.
