PM Modi Proposes Portal Honoring "Pravasi Bharatiya" Heroes
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the 16th Bharatiya Pravasi Diwas on January 9, flagged the idea of a portal commemorating Indians around the world who contributed to India's development including freedom struggle in the past. Remembering the icons such as Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda and Subhash Chandra Bose, PM Modi stated that adhering to this portal will be a beacon for the citizens to learn about India's rich history. Much like a 'digital museum', the portal will provide detailed information via pictures and documents of every Indian-heroic act. Besides, the portal will also contain chapters of questions from every edition of 'Know India' (Bharat Ko Jaano) quiz competition that commenced in 2015. Moreover, PM Modi also acknowledged the prominence of ‘Global Pravasi Rishta Portal’ that will connect nearly 30 million pravasis (migrants) of Indian diaspora scattered around the globe. The 'Rishta' portal aims to attract and connect the global Indian population to avail "new opportunities" in India.
