Press Freedom Day 2021 Bats For Empowering Journalism And Transparency
Just like how mirror reflects a true picture of ourselves, press exhibits reflection of the society that acts as the watchdog of the system. Known as the 'Fourth Pillar' of democracy, this important facet is responsible for raising the voice of people while keeping a check on government's accountability. Every year World Press Freedom Day is celebrated on May 3 to highlight the violations of press freedom while laying emphasis on the harsh realities of reporting. In year 1993 the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed that in every year May 3 will be celebrated as ‘World Press Freedom Day’. This year’s them of Press Freedom Day is ‘Information as a Public Good’ emphasising on strengthening journalism while shedding light on transparency.
