Emperor Penguins May Go Extinct By 2100 Due To Climate Change
United States Fish and Wildlife Services has listed the Emperer penguins of Antarctica as "endangered species". According to a study, 98% of Emperor penguins may become extinct by 2100 due to the sudden and fast climate change activities on earth. Scientists have estimated that at this rate, at least two-third of penguin-occupied colonies (70%) would go extinct by 2050.

Scientists Discover Marine Life In -2°C Under Antarctica Ice Shelves
Researchers working in Antarctica have accidently discovered marine life living in -2°C, under the ice shelves. While the researchers have earlier found fish, worms and jellies, under ice-cover, this study for the first surfaced filter feeder species on the southeastern Weddle Sea. Antarctica - Only COVID Untouched Continent Now Has 58 Cases
Coronavirus has reached the last untouched continent, affecting 58 Chilean people in Antarctica. While 36 people tested positive for COVID-19 on December 21 at the Gen. Bernardo O'Higgins Riquelme Antarctic base, 21 people aboard a Chilean supply ship tested positive on December 22. Besides, one person tested positive from Las Estrellas' village. Research Projects Halted In Antartica Amid COVID; First Case Reported
While the recent strain of the Coronavirus is being faced by nations around the globe, Antarctica has reported its first case of the virus. 36 new cases have been registered, comprising of 26 Chilean Army members and 10 maintenance staffs. People infected have been evacuated to Punta Arenas in Chile, where they are quarantined. All research ventures in the Antarctic have been suspended in an attempt to deter the transmission of COVID-19.
