SC Dismisses Plea To Cancel Vandalism Cases Against Kerala's MLAs

The SC dismissed the plea filed by the Kerala government to withdraw criminal cases against several communist party MLAs for allegedly vandalizing the 2015 State Assembly. "Committing destruction of property in the assembly cannot be equated to freedom of speech in the house", the court clarified. It ruled that "immunity granted to lawmakers is not a power status and therefore cannot cover their acts".
