Former Chinese Minister Sentenced To Life Imprisonment For Accepting $91 Mn In Bribe

China’s former deputy public security minister Sun Lijun has been sentenced to life imprisonment for allegedly accepting $91 million in bribe. He was also accused of allegedly “deserting” his post during China’s initial fight against COVID-19. The 53-year-old Lijun was initially sentenced to death. However, his punishment was commuted to life imprisonment. The coring held that Lijun has abused his power during 2001 to 2020.

65 New COVID Cases Reported In China, NHC Claims In Daily Report

The National Health Commission in a report on January 16, said that China reported 65 new locally transmitted Covid-19 cases. However, 54 new imported cases in nine provincial-level regions were reported, said the commission. Moreover, 33 new local cases were reported in Tianjin, 29 in Henan and one each in Beijing, Guangdong, and Shaanxi. Meanwhile, nine new cases in Shanghai were registered and no Covid-19 deaths were reported.
