Serum Institute Resumes Export Of Covishield Vaccine

The Serum Institute of India (SII) On November 26 resumed the export of Covishield, a made-in-India vaccine against Covid-19. The export service has been resumed under the global vaccine sharing programme namely 'COVAX', reported PTI. ''The first batches of the vaccine left the SII manufacturing facility in Pune,'' said the company. So far, the SII produced close to 1.25 billion vaccine doses.

SII To Boost Covishield Production To 200 Million Doses From Oct

CEO of Serum Institute of India (SII), Adar Poonawalla addressed a virtual conference with Executive Chairperson of Biocon Biologics (BBL) Kiran Mazumdar Shaw to announce their strategic alliance on September 17. Reportedly, SII was looking to scale up its research facilities with BBL. Also, the alliance aims to increase the production of Covishield Vaccines from 160 million doses monthly to 200 million doses from October.

Mumbai Man Held For Allegedly Black Marketing Covishield Vaccine

Kishore Khet Kumar was arrested by the Navi Mumbai police for the supposed black marketing of the Covishield vaccine. Reportedly, the man sold each dose of the vaccine at Rs 4,000 each. The police thereafter informed Food and Drug Administration officials who sent a decoy customer to entrap the accused. Besides, the police seized two vials and 15 doses of Covishield. Fraud and cheating charges were booked against the accused.

DGCI Approves Research On Mixing Two Covid Vaccines

The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) on August 10 gave permission for conducting a study on the mixing of doses of Covaxin and Covishield vaccines against the Covid-19 virus. It advised that the research and trials will be done by Christian College in Vellore. The Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) in its previous study disclosed that combining the two vaccines has shown "better immunogenicity."

Government Procures Covishield For Rs 215; Covaxin At Rs 225

In wake of the COVID-19 crisis, the Centre has ordered 66 crores doses of newly manufactured vaccines. The vaccines will be available at a revised price of Rs 215 & Rs 225 for Covishield and Covaxin respectively. However, a senior official said, “We are on the path to achieving the target of 50 crore doses by July 31, this is crucial towards meeting our target coverage by 2021.”

Switzerland Along With 8 EU Nations Clear Covishield For Travel Pass

Serum Institute of India's Covishield vaccine is cleared for a travel pass in eight EU nations- Austria, Germany, Slovenia, Greece, Estonia, Iceland, Ireland, Spain, and Switzerland. Amidst issues of Covishield's travel pass clearance, Adar Poonawalla, CEO of Serum Institute tweeted on June 28, "I have taken this up at the highest levels and hope to resolve this matter soon." In the past, EMA had cleared only four vaccines.

India May Fall Short Of Daily Vaccine Target In July: Report

The vaccination doses ascribed for July may fail to meet the daily assigned vaccination targets. An affidavit issued by the Government mentioned that the states and union territories will be allotted 12 crore vaccine doses in July (40 lakh doses per day), which is lower than the target of one crore doses. These include ten crore doses of Covishield from Serum Institute of India and two crore doses of Covaxin from Bharat Biotech.
