Netflix To File Plea Against ₹196 Cr Tax Demand

Online streaming major Netflix to file an appeal before the income tax appellate tribunal against the Rs 196 crore tax demand raised by the taxmen over alleged tax evasion. Netflix's move comes after the Dispute Resolution Panel (DRP) allowed the tax demand raised by its international taxation wing. The IT department had contended that Netflix Entertainment Services LLP acted as a dependent agent permanent establishment (DAPE) of Netflix.

File ITR By July 31 As There's No Extension By IT Department

The Income Tax Department asked all taxpayers to file their income tax returns (ITR) before July 31. With the Centre making it clear that it is not contemplating extending the deadline further. "Remember to e-verify after filing”, tweeted the IT Department. However, filing an income tax return is just half the work done, and you need to e-verify your ITR within 30 days of filing.

IT NITES Complaints To Labour Ministry Against Wipro Over Salary

Disappointed with the company, IT employee union Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has filed a complaint against Indian IT major Wipro with the Labour Ministry. Filed on February 22, the complaint reads,  "The company [Wipro] is now reducing the salary of freshers unethically, which is a clear violation of the terms of the offer letter and a breach of contract." Wipro revised offer letter, reducing salaries by 50%.

IT Dept Conduct Surveys At BBC Office In Delhi, Mumbai

A team of 15 officials from the Income Tax Department conducted survey operations at the offices of the BBC in Delhi and Mumbai, on February 14.  As per sources, the searches at the BBC offices were related to allegations of International Taxation and Transfer Pricing irregularities, said sources. The department is looking at documents related to the business operations of the company and those related to its Indian arm.

I-T Dept Seizes Unaccounted Cash, Liquor & Drugs Worth Rs 328 Crore Amid UP Elections

Income Tax Department Authorities have seized cash, drugs, liquor, and other inducements worth over Rs 300 crore so far, a report stated. In addition, Rs 15 crore was seized from Kanpur, Rs 11 crore was recovered by the IT Department and the rest by other agencies. Notably, this is twice the seizure made in the state during the 2017 assembly polls which were Rs 193.29 crore.

The Income-tax department on December 31, conducted a raid at Samajwadi Party MLC Pammi Jain's residence in Uttar Pradesh. "BJP's fear and anger is clear.
