Flights Delayed, Roads Shut Amid Snowfall In Kashmir
Several roads in far-off areas of Kashmir closed, while flights were delayed at Srinagar airport, after Kashmir valley received fresh snowfall. An official has said that Srinagar recorded rain and snowfall of 7.1 mm since overnight till morning of January 4. Notably, Kashmir valley is currently under the grip of 40 day long harsh period of winter, which will be followed by a 20 day long "Chilla Baccha".

Sonamarg-Zojila Road Closes Due To Snowfall In Kashmir
The Sonamarg-Zojila road in Kashmir has been closed by authorities on January 3, after upper reaches of Ganderbal district received fresh snowfall. Keeping in view slippery condition and fresh snowfall, Sonamarg-Zojila road has been closed as a precautionary measure, an official said. The officials in the district have said that men and machinery are on job to restore traffic.

Kashmir Police Investigates Mysterious Death In Budgam
Kashmir Police registered cognizance case and started investigation of a mysterious death, on January 2. A 45-year-old carpenter identified as Rameez Ahmad Beigh was found dead in Budgam under mysterious circumstances, in an under construction building in Humhama area. He was rushed to SMHS hospital by his colleagues, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Night Temperature Rises In Ladakh And J&K Following Rain & Snowfall
The night temperature in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh region increased, with fresh rain and snowfall. An official in the Indian meterological department, on January 2, has said that Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K recorded a low temperature of 0.3°C, while the city also recorded rainfall of 1.2mm last night. The mercury at Gulmarg settled at -6.2°C, with snowfall of 4.2 cms.

Srinagar Administration Retrieves State Land Worth Rs 25 Crore: Jammu & Kashmir
Administration in Srinagar, Kashmir retrieved over 46 Kanal and 17 Marla State Land, worth Rs 25 crore, during a massive anti-encroachment drive. Launched on the directions of Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz, the land encroachment drive would be conducted sternly as per law & order. The DC sought cooperation of people in its action against encroachments.

3 Persons Including Sarpanch Arrested For Drug Peddling In Kupwara: J&K
Police in Kupwara district of J&K arrested three persons, including a Sarpanch, for their involvement in drug peddling, and booked them under Public Safety Act (PSA), on December 30. SSP Kupwara Yougal Manhas said that the trio has been arrested and lodged in Jail, after PSA orders were issued by Divisional Commissioner. He said that they were habitual drug peddlers, and were luring youth towards drugs.

Temperature In Kupwara Drops To -4.4°C, Snowfall Expected In Kashmir
Temperature in the Kashmir valley will drop further over the next few days, said officials on December 30. Reportedly, the minimum temperature in Kupwara in north Kashmir reached minus 4.4 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department also predicted light rain/snow at a few places for two days starting from January 1. However, the valley is witnessing Chilla-i-Kalan or the harshest 40-day winter which begins on December 21.

Another Cop Of Zewan Srinagar Attack Succumbs To Injuries: J&K
The Zewan Srinagar attack death toll increased to three on December 14 after the injured policeman of the attack succumbed to his injuries. Besides, an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) and Selection Grade Constable also died when militants, claimed to be Kashmiri Tigers (an offshoot of Jaish-e-Mohammed), ambushed a police bus in Zewan on December 13. A total of 15 personnel got injured, of which 11 are undergoing treatment.

Srinagar Records Coldest Night Of The Season
The lowest temperatures have leveled off below freezing throughout Kashmir, including Srinagar which recorded the coldest night of the winter season so far. Srinagar recorded minus 2.5 degrees Celsius on November 30, while Gulmarg recorded minus 1.6 degrees Celsius. Qazigund witnessed a minus 3.3 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, the MET declared that the weather is likely to remain dry but cold until December 3.

Terrorist neutralised by security forces in J&K’s Pulwama
Security forces gunned down a terrorist during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama on October 15. The terrorist was involved in a recent civilian killing in the Union Territory, Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet. The encounter between terrorists and security forces started earlier today at the Wahibug area of Pulwama.
