NCP Becomes First Party To Have Separate Cell For LGBT Community

Touted as the first party to take such step, Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has set up a 'LGBT cell'. NCP's Maharashtra chief Jayant Patil on October 5 launched the cell, and appointed Priya Patil as its state-head. Jayant Patil said, "We will continue our efforts to bring them into the mainstream." Reportedly, the party has promised the constitution of such cell in its election manifesto as well.

Conversion Therapy To Be Banned in New Zealand

The Labour party of New Zealand has promised to ban conversion therapy, if re-elected on October 17. Conversion therapy provides a means to alter sexual orientation. The Labour party leader, Tāmati Coffey, on October 5, said that the therapy was linked to many adverse effects including depression and anxiety and hence the party has decided to ban it. Currently, the therapy is already banned in several US states and Canada.

One Direction's Harry Styles to Star in LGBTQ-Themed Movie

Harry Styles, former 'One Direction' member, will be starring in a Amazon Studios's movie that will be adaptation of Bethan Robert's LGBTQ-themed novel "The Policeman". The movie will be directed by Micheal Grandage, and produced by Greg Berlanti, Robbie Rogers, and Sarah Schechter. Lily James is said to be the leading lady in the movie. However, the name and release date of the movie are yet to be announced.
