34 Child-Friendly Police Stations To Be Set Up By Odisha Govt

According to reports, 34 child-friendly police stations will be set up by the Odisha Government across the state, in order to eliminate the stress of children. Furthermore, each police district will set up such a station. “All of these proposed police stations will have special facilities for children and special logos, plaques, libraries for children featuring a variety of books, magazines and newspapers.”, read the CMO’s statement.

Haryana: Protesting Farmers Move With Cow In Police Station

Haryana Police and protesting farmers have reached an impasse with hundreds moving into the Sadar Police Station and even erected tents on the premises. Interestingly, one farmer brought his cow to the protest claiming that there was no one available to look after her. The protesters were demanding the release of two associates who were arrested during a protest in front of an MLA's house on June 1.

SC Orders Installation Of CCTVs At Police Stations, Investigating Agencies

In order to prevent custodial torture, all law enforcement agencies of the Centre, including the CBI and NIA, and the states are instructed to install CCTV cameras. The Supreme Court-pronounced order mandated that the CCTVs must be capable to 'capture audio' and 'record footage in the dark', while the recorded data must be available for at least 12 months. The court also asked to set up human rights courts in every district.

UP: Govt To Setup Women Help Desk in Police Stations

Every Police Station in Uttar Pradesh will set up a women help desk to assist and receive complaints from women. The decision was taken by the Uttar Pradesh CM, following a social outrage against Hathras gang rape case. The help desks will be setup from October 17, which coincides with the 'Mission Shakthi' campaign launch. 'Mission Shakthi' is a six-month campaign to empower woman and create awareness with knowledge on self-defence.

Apex Court Questions States on Status of CCTV Installation in Police Stations

The Apex Court, asked the chief secretaries of the states and UT to submit a report on the status of CCTV installations in the police stations across the country, by November 24. The bench warned them to take the matter seriously, as it is associated with the fundamental rights of the citizens under the Indian constitution. The bill passed in April, 2018, to keep a check on human rights abuse.
