In a firing incident, four died inside Bathinda Military Station in Punjab.  After the incident occurred in the early hours, the concerned official cordoned off and quick response teams launched search operations. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann expressed grief over the killing of an Indian-origin Sikh family in California and urged the Centre to take up the matter with the US authorities. He also demanded a thorough probe in kidnapping and murder incident, which shook the nation. Notably, bodies of Jasdeep Singh (39), his wife Jasleen Kaur (27), their eight-month-old daughter Aroohi Dheri and Jasdeep's brother Amandeep Singh (39) were found in an orchard.

In the ongoing investigation of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder case, accused and gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s close aid Deepak Tinu escaped custody in Punjab. Tinu was lodged in the custody of Punjab police’s Crime Investigation Agency (CIA). The National Green Tribunal (NGT) imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 crore on the state of Punjab as environmental compensation. The penalty has been imposed for allegedly failing to ensure proper treatment of solid and liquid wastes causing harm to the environment. Notably, the compensation has been imposed under section 15 of the NGT Act.

Former Punjab CM Amarinder Singh joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of senior leaders of the saffron party.  On September 19, the veteran former Congress leader also merged his newly formed Punjab Lok Congress (PLC), which was floated last year after quitting Congress, and joined it with the BJP. The recent merger is said to be a major setback for opposition, Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab.
