Serena Williams Reveals Her Experience Over Colour-based Discrimination

Tennis player Serena Williams, in magazine British Vogue's, opened up about her experience regarding colour-based discrimination. She said that she suffered the feeling of being “underpaid, undervalued” because of her skin colour. She expressed that she never wanted to have a lighter complexion. "I like who I am, I like how I look, and I love representing the beautiful dark women out there," she added.

Serena Williams Pulls Out Of French Open 2020, Cites Achilles Injury

American tennis player Serena Williams dropped out of the French Open 2020 on September 30 after suffering from an Achilles injury. The 23-time Grand Slam winner announced  her exit after advancing to the second round of the event. She had hurt her left Achilles tendon during the semi-finals of the US Open. “I think I need four to six weeks of sitting and doing nothing,” Williams said.

Serena Williams Rolls Over Kristie Ahn in the First Round of French Open

Serena Williams headed to the second round of the French Open after taking down Kristie Ahn 7-6 (7/2), 6-0 in Roland Garros. Williams faced a slow opening which was prone to errors but gradually aced it after 72-minutes. "Kristie played very well in the first set, it wasn't easy for me and she hit a lot of winners," said Williams. Moreover, Williams will face Tsvetana Pironkova on September 30.

US Open: Serena Williams Loses to Victoria Azarenka in Semi Finals

Serena Williams was beaten by Victoria Azarenka with 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the semi-finals of the US Open on September 10. Azarenka also ended Williams' quest for a record-tying 24th Grand Slam singles title. Belarusian Azarenka is a two-time Grand Slam champion and has advanced to her first title race in seven years. She will face Naomi Osaka in the final that is to be held on September 13.

US Open: Serena Moves Past Tsvetana Pironkova, Edges Closer to 24th Grand Slam Title

Serena Williams moved onto US Open semis after beating Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Williams trailed in the first set, but was able to beat the Bulgarian during the match. Looking for her 24th Grand Slam singles title, Serena will face either Victoria Azarenka of Belarus or Belgian Elise Mertens. It has been 3 years since she won her last Grand Slam title (2017 Australian Open).
