The Trinamool Congress on June 5 named MP Abhishek Banerjee as the national general secretary of the party. The decision was taken by the working committee in a virtual meeting chaired by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. Abhishek, MP from Diamond Harbour, is also the nephew of CM Mamata. On the appointment, a party leader said, "Abhishek is virtually the second-in-command in the TMC. He will oversee the organisation work."
