Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Free Booster Vaccination Drive Begins Across India
Nationwide special booster vaccination drive for eligible people, (18-59) years old age group, begins on July 15. The vaccine drive has been launched under the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' to mark the 75 years of Independence of India. Eligible people who have completed their two Covid-19 vaccine doses, and have a duration gap of six months between the booster and two doses, can take booster in their respective states.

India Covid-19 Active Cases Increases to 83,990 With Over 13k New Cases
India's active Covid-19 cases tally rises to 83,990 with 13,313 new cases, registered in the past 24 hours. On June 23, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) also confirmed 38 fatalities, taking the total to 5,24,941. Furthermore, active cases comprise 0.19%, while the national recovery rate at 98.60%, with an increase in cases by 2,303. In addition, 196.62 Covid-19 doses were administered to people till date.

Union Govt Confirms Industrial Growth By 7.1% In April 2022
The Union Government data confirmed Industrial output growth by 7.1% in April. On June 10, the released data confirmed that the mining and power sector contributed the maximum to the growth. Notably, the power and mining sectors grew by 11.8 percent and 7.8 percent, respectively.. Besides industrial, the manufacturing sector reported 6.3% growth, as confirmed by the National Statistical Office (NSO).

India Covid-19 Cases Dip To 17,698 With 2,706 New Cases
India registered 2,706 new Covid-19 cases, taking the active case tally to 17,698, on May 30. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare also confirmed 25 fatalities and 2,070 recoveries, in the past 24 hours, after conducting 2,78,267 tests. With the update of the new case, India currently has a 0.58% daily positivity rate and 98.74% recovery rate. Moreover, approximately 193.31 crore vaccine doses have been administered to people.

SC Declares GST Council Proposals Not Obligatory On Union Government, States
Supreme Court (SC) declared that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council's decisions are not binding on the Union government or states on May 19, but have significant value because India has a cooperative federal system. The decision was made by Justices DY Chandrachud, Surya Kant, and Vikram Nath. SC affirmed a Gujarat HC decision to reject the imposition of Integrated GST on importers of ocean freight under reverse charge.

SC Orders To Stop Filing FIRs For Sedition Charges
To restrict misuse of the Sedition Law, the Supreme Court gave a historic judgment, asking to pause filing FIRs under the 124A section, until the Centre completes its review. On May 11, the SC bench said, "It will be appropriate not to use this provision of law till further re-examination is over." Furthermore, the Apex Court said, those facing sedition charges can approach the court for the same.

Rajiv Kumar Steps Down As Niti Aayog VC, Suman K Bery To Take Over
Rajiv Kumar has stepped down as the post of Vice Chairman of the Niti Aayog, paving way for the next VC Suman K. Bery. On April 22, the Ministry of Personnel released a notification that read, "Appointment of Dr Suman K Bery as Vice-Chairperson, Niti Aayog with effect from May 1, 2022, until further orders". The terms & conditions of the new VC would be same as the outgoing VC.

Union Minister Inaugurates Northeast India's 1st Flying Training Academy
Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Civil Aviation Minister launched Northeast India's first flying training academy in Assam. The Airport Authority of India and Redbird Flight jointly established the academy. During the inauguration on April 12, Scindia said, "This is the first time in 75 years that we are starting a flying academy in the state of Assam". Furthermore, in the second-phase, Assam will get 15 more flying training academies.

Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao will discuss the ongoing 'paddy procurement' issue with the Central Government. In regard to this, KCR called for a Cabinet meeting, chaired by him at 2 pm, at Telangana Bhavan, Hyderabad. ] Notably, the meeting came a day after KCR gave 24-hour deadline to PM Modi and union ministers, asking them to buy paddy from the farmers, which the BJP-led Central Government declined.

15.92 Cr COVID-19 Vaccine Doses Available With States, UTs: Union Govt
The Union Health Ministry has confirmed the availability of over 15.90crore vaccine doses for COVID-19 with states and union territories in India. On April 7, the Centre said, of the total 186.36 crore vaccine were provided of which, over 15 crores are still with States and UTs. It is to be noted, the nationwide vaccine drive started in January 2021, vaccinating the majority of population against the deadly Coronavirus.
