Extreme Weather Events Claim At Least 2,000 Lives In 2020: IMD
At least 2,000 people lost their lives in 2020 due to extreme weather events in the country, stated a report of the India Meteorological Department (IMD). While heavy rainfall claimed over 600 lives, thunderstorms and lightening killed more than 815 people throughout the country. Uttar Pradesh and Bihar emerged as the worst affected states in this regard with each of them reporting over 350 deaths due to thunderstorm, lightning, and cold waves.
