Delhi: Govt Suspends Internet Services Following 'Tractor Rally' Violence
The Union Home Ministry has ordered the suspension of internet services in the areas of Singhu, Tikri, Ghazipur, Mukarba Chowk and Nangloi. The issued order that will be in force in from noon hours to 23:59 hours on January 26 cited "the interest of public safety and averting public emergency" as a reason. The authorities were prompted to decide as the national capital witnessed a ruckus, which has resulted in the death of a protester. Moreover, surfacing of videos showing protestors waving alleged 'Khalistani' flags over the Red Fort has created a stir among netizens. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut have condemned the disruption of status quo in Delhi. Initially promised to be a peaceful rally, clashes between police and protestors have resulted in injuries from both ends. Earlier this morning, the protestors had forcefully entered the city breaking barricades and violating the permission to hold rally after the Republic Day parade.
