Smokers At 50% Higher Risk Of COVID-Caused Death, Disease: WHO
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on May 29 said that smokers are 50% highly prone to contracting severe disease or death by COVID-19. He suggested, "Quitting is the best thing they [smokers] can do to lower their risk from coronavirus". Under the 'Commit to quit tobacco' campaign, WHO aims to create tobacco-free environments. The campaign assists people with its quitting toolkits, which the global body provides free-of-cost.
