US: California Becomes First State To Consider 'Slavery Reparations'
California became the first US state to adopt a law to collect data and indemnify the descendants of enslaved African-Americans. Authorities constituted a committee to submit a non-binding recommendation for identification of eligible people. Gavin Newsom, Governor, California tweeted his approval while emphasizing that everybody deserves an equal "opportunity to thrive". The long contentious issue, 'slavery reparations’, surfaced after the recent police brutality incident in Minneapolis that killed George Floyd.
