Astrophysicist, Stephen Hawking's 'Office Mate' SM Chitre No More
Mumbai-based distinguished astrophysicist and mathematician Shashikumar Madhusudan Chitre passed away at the age of 84, on January 11. He had been suffering from age-related liver ailments. Formerly designated as a senior professor at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, the Padma Shree awardee was an "office-mate" of world-famous physicist Stephen Hawking during their PhD years in Cambridge University. Interestingly, Chitre also credited Hawking of teaching him the game of Croquet.
