Kolkata Blown Away By Gayle Storm; Punjab Secures Fourth Place In Table
Gayle storm in Sharjah helped Kings XI Punjab easily climb up to the fourth spot in the points table after defeating Kolkata Knight Riders. Winning the toss, Punjab smartly decided to chase the target. After losing three top-order batsmen for mere 10 runs, Kolkata tried to regain the ground with Eoin Morgan and Shubman Gill anchoring the scorecard. However, the game was dragged away from the reach of Kolkata after Ravi Bishnoi broke the partnership in the 10th over. KKR could set only a below-par target of 150 runs. For Punjab, a slow and steady start by KL Rahul and Mandeep Singh eventually pillared the chase. Once Rahul departed, it was the 'Universal Boss' Chris Gayle's show that clinched the victory for the Kings. He scored 51 off 29 balls, hitting five humongous sixes, and was well supported by Mandeep (66 off 56 deliveries). With this, Punjab comfortably conquered the target and bagged five back-to-back victories.
