UN's World Food Programme Awarded Nobel Peace Prize 2020
The United Nation's food assistance branch World Food Programme (WFP) has received the Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2020. The Norwegian Nobel Committee decided to award WFP for “its efforts to combat hunger and for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas.” The committee also stated that WFP acted as a driving force to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict. Mentioning WFP's work as a benefit to mankind, the committee lauded WFP for addressing hunger and promoting food security. Started in 1961, the WFP helps to feed more than 90 million people in 83 countries every year.
