Women's T20 Challenge: Velocity Beat Supernova In Opener; Sune Luus Shines

Mithali Raj's Velocity registered a 5-wicket win against Harmanpreet Kaur’s Supernova in the inaugural match of the first-ever Women’s T20 Challenge on November 4. Chasing a target of 127, Velocity had a poor start and lost the opener Danielle Wyatt for a golden duck. Its top-order stumbled with skipper Mithali too failing to score. However, a 51-run partnership between Sushma Verma and South African Sune Luus thrust the struggling Velocity back into the game. Luus scored quick 37 on 21 balls and Verma logged disciplined 34 off 33 deliveries. More importantly, three sixes in the 16th and 17th over, which fetched 25 runs altogether, helped Velocity to bridge the chase. Earlier batting first and despite a good start, Supernova failed to give a tight total. Athapaththu's 39-ball 44-run and Harmanpreet's 31 contributed well in the middle-order, but still they could not put a decent total to defend. Sune Luus was awarded the 'player of the match'.
