Young India Scripts History At Gabba To Clinch Broder-Gavaskar Trophy
Bouncing back from a disheartening loss in the first test match, bruised, battered but resolute Team India on January 19 secured the Border-Gavaskar series 2-1 with an emphatic 3-wicket win over Australia in the fourth Test at Brisbane. Chasing 328 in the fourth inning, India achieved the target in the 97th over with 18 balls to spare. Southpaw Rishabh Pant emerged as the hero of the inning with his unbeaten knock of 89 runs off 138 deliveries. After early loss of Rohit’s wicket, Shubman Gill batted with Pujara; and they were steady enough to prevent fall of wickets. While Gill scored 91, Pujara stood at the crease for hours before he was out on 56 off 211 deliveries, scoring slowest but an indelible fifty in his Test career. Earlier, Indian pacers Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur also shared the glory with their five-wicket and four-wicket haul respectively to contain the Kangaroos. Pleased with India's historic victory, the BCCI has announced a bonus of Rs 5 crore for the Indian Cricket Team.
