India To Purchase 30 US Armed Drones Worth $3 Billion

India is likely to sign $3-billion deal to purchase 30 armed drones 'MQ-9B Predator' from the US in April 2021, as per the officials. The deal aims to strengthen India's military presence in sea and at land amid rising tensions with China and Pakistan. Capable of carrying a payload of about 1,700 kilograms, the MQ-9B Predator drones can remain in air for up to 48 hours. As of now, India has only surveillance-bound drones.

Govt Nods BCCI To Use Drones In Matches For 2021 Cricket Season

The BCCI has received a conditional exemption from the Civil Aviation Ministry and Directorate General of Civil Aviation to use drones while filming matches for 2021 Indian cricket season. BSF Says Pakistan Uses Drones For Spying, Smuggling Arms In India

BSF Director General Rakesh Asthana on February 3 accused Pakistan of using drones for spying and smuggling arms, explosives and narcotics in Indian territory, especially in Punjab and Jammu. Army Officer Creates Microcopter To Track Terrorists In Buildings

An Indian Army officer Lieutenant Colonel GYK Reddy has designed a microcopter which can be used as surveillance against hidden terrorists inside a building or room. Being tested by a Para Special Forces Battalion in Jammu and Kashmir, the testing team has suggested some improvements to be done in the micro drone. Reportedly, the indigenously developed microcopter was displayed at an Indian Army’s innovation event held in New Delhi.

Malaysian researchers at Putra University have developed a material from pineapple leaves fibre that can be used to build drones or unmanned aircraft. Porject head Prof. Thariq said these drones have higher strength-to-weight-ratio and are cheaper, eco-friendly and easy to dispose. Reportedly, the prototypes of these eco-friendly drones stayed in air for 20 minutes and could fly up to a height of about 1,000 metres.
