8th Round Farmer-Centre Talks Inconclusive; Next Talks On January 8
The eighth round talks between farmers' representative and Centre on January 4 has yet again failed to break the impasse. The talks were inconclusive as the farmers' representatives stuck to their demand for repealing the laws, while the government persuaded to discuss the issues. Meanwhile, the farmer unions' representatives, stated that the protest would continue until the laws are revoked. The next meeting is scheduled for January 8.

62-year-old Punjab Woman Drives Jeep To Reach Farmers' Protest Site
A photo related to the ongoing farmers' protest has become viral, wherein a 62-year-old woman can be seen driving a jeep en route to Singhu border, Delhi. Reportedly, the woman, Manjit Kaur, was driving from Patiala to the protest site and was accompanied by three more women. SC Suggested Panel Member Sainath Supports Farmers' Demand
Journalist P Sainath, whose name has been suggested by the Supreme Court for the panel to look upon the farmers' protests, said that the new laws are deeply flawed. Sainath has clarified that he will not be a part of the panel until the government answers a series of questions asked by him. Sikh Priest Commits Suicide Over Misery Of Protesting Farmers
In a first casualty that can be linked to the ongoing farmers' protest, a Haryana-based Sikh priest shot himself on December 16. The priest, Sant Ram Singh, took this drastic step near Delhi's Singhu border and cited the farmers' misery as reason. "I'm unable to witness the pain of the farmers. I can't bear this sadness," he wrote in his suicide letter. He added that his suicide was a voice against the government's oppression.

SC Asks Govt To Constitute Panel To Resolve Farmers' Issue
To avoid the farmers' protest becoming a serious "national issue", the Supreme Court has advised the centre to constitute a panel comprising all the stakeholders. While the government claimed that they were ready for negotiations, the Chief Justice SA Bobde-led bench has opined the "negotiation will again fail as they (Farmers) won't agree". Moreover, the Apex has refused to issue orders without hearing the statements from farmers union.
