Flood-Like Situation In Gujarat's Rajkot Due To Incessant Rains; 1 Dead

In Gujarat's Rajkot, flood-like situation has been caused incessant rainfall, which has claimed at least one life, on July 12. An alert has been issued to residents living in the lower reaches. Meanwhile, two National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed in the area, and schools were closed. "We have around 500 backup ambulances and over 400 tractors and dumpers, said Rajkot Collector Arun Mahesh Babu.

Japanese Firm Designs 'Flood-Resistant' Floating Houses

"Ichijo Komuten," Japanese housing construction corporation, claims to have designed a floating house that would assist flood-prone countries handle their problems. The structure of the house is peculiar because it is waterproof, and as the water level rises, it begins to float. The company said, “Electric things have been installed upwards, so that water does not reach there. The house can float at a height of up to 5 meters."

Assam Floods: 2 Police Officers Washed Away In Waters In Nagaon District

The flood situation in Assam continues to stay grim as two police personnel were washed away in flood waters in Central Assam's Nagaon district, on June 19. The incident occurred in Kanpur area, when a team of police officers went to investigate a case. After the officers were washed away, the body of the constable was recovered. Meanwhile, the officer-in-charge is still missing, and the search is underway.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Visits Dima Hasao To Review Landslide Situation

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Dima Hasao district to review the flood and landslide situation, on May 24. Dima Hasao district has been badly affected by landslides, due to which, centre had earlier sanctioned Rs 180 crore for development works in the rail network which was disrupted. Reportedly, 12 villages in the district have reported landslides, over 80 houses have been affected and three persons lost their lives.

Assam Flood: 6 More Deaths Reported, 7.2 Lakh Affected Across 22 Districts

The grim situation in Assam is continuing to deteriorate due to the current flood situation. In the latest development, six more persons lost their lives including two children, taking the death toll to 24. As of May 23, 7.2 lakh persons have been affected across 22 districts. Nagaon is the worst hit district with 3.46 lakh people affected. Followed by Cachar (at least 2.29 lakh people) and Hojai (58,300 people).

Assam Flood: IAF Deploys Aircrafts, Rescues 119 Stranded Persons Using Choppers

In the flood-affected areas of Assam, the Indian Air Force (IAF) is continuing to provide assist with its airlift rescue teams. The IAF is also providing relief materials to the people in the region. The two Mi-17 helicopters deployed by the IAF, helped evacuate about 119 stranded persons at Ditokchera railway station. Furthermore, about 24,747 stranded persons have been rescued with the help of the Indian Army.

8 Dead, 3 Missing As Hurricane Grace Hits Mexico

Hurricane Grace hit the eastern parts of Mexico, claiming the lives of eight people and leaving three injured, on August 21. The hurricane speeds up the wind up to 205 km per hour and caused severe floods in over 20 municipalities in Veracruz, the collapse of roads, and the failure of electricity. The tropical season which started on May 15 in Mexico is expected to end in November.

CM Mamata Banerjee To Survey Flood-hit Areas In Bengal

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee will conduct an aerial survey of Ghatal in Paschim Medinipur district that is affected due to an "unnatural" flood on August 10. A day before, Banerjee also surveyed the areas of Udaynarayanpur and Jhargram districts and blamed the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) for releasing ''excessive water'' from its dams. Reportedly, around 23 people have died so far and many people have had to abandon their homes.
