Maharashtra: 60% Rise In Leopard Deaths; Man-Animal Conflict Tripled
Maharashtra Forest Department has recorded 174 leopard deaths in 2020, a 60% increase from the last year. Of the total 174 leopard deaths, 85 died naturally, 64 succumbed to accidents and 18 cases of poaching were registered till December, 2020. Uttarakhand Likely To Get First Crocodile Safari In Kumaon Region
Uttarakhand will soon have its first crocodile safari in the Surai forest range of Kumaon district to boost eco-tourism. The authorities have designated safari's location in Khakra Nullah, which passes through the Surai range and is home to a large number of crocodiles. Maharashtra To Cultivate 8300 Ha Land To Maintain Food Chain
As a measure to provide fodder to animals, the Maharashtra government has decided to plant 8300 hectares of land for four years as meadows in the forest land. Interestingly, the occupied area would be equal to the area of Pune City. State Forest Minister Sanjay Rathod has said the initiative is to maintain the food chain in the forests. Besides, he added that the initiative would limit stress on forests.

Forest Department Builds A "Eco-Bridge" To Help Reptiles Cross Busy Highway
In a unique initiative taken by the Uttarakhand Forest Department, a 90-foot long 'eco bridge' has been erected to help reptiles cross the busy highway. The bridge has been made using grass, jute, and bamboo under 10 days in the Ramnagar forest division, on the main route to Nainital. The forest is home to various species of snakes, monitor lizards, monkeys, and squirrels, which were often killed by high-speed vehicles.

Experts Suggest Elephant Catching As Step To Reduce Man-Elephant Conflict
To reduce elephant-man conflicts, an expert panel has requested the Union Environment Ministry to lift the ban on elephant catching. The panel wrote a letter reading the country has been successful in saving elephants but need to "re-think if our forests are ready to handle such a huge population of elephants." The experts have recommended the elephants that are caught could be trained and used for other purposes.

Uttarakhand: City Forest In Jhajhra to Open from Navaratri
'Anand Van' - the city forest at Jhajhra, developed by the forest department, was inaugurated on September 22 by Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat. The conservation project has an intent to showcase the state's flora and fauna heritage, and will be shortly open to visitors. Reportedly, the forest was completed in 3.5 years at a cost of Rs 43 lakh. Similar theme-based parks are under construction in Rishikesk and Haldwani.

Tamil Nadu Forest Authorities to Carry Study on Elephants in Coonoor Area
Tamil Nadu Forest department in association with WWF-India will study elephants on the Coonoor ghat stretch. Authorities say this will help them know more about elephant’s habitat range along Coonoor hill area. Telugu Actor Prabhas Adopts 1650 Acres of Reserve Forest in Telangana
Bahubali famed actor Prabhas adopted over 1,650 acres of Khazipally reserve forest, under the Green India Challenge, in Hyderabad. The forest will be developed as an urban eco-park and the foundation was laid by Prabhas along with Telangana Forest Minister Allola Indra Karan Reddy and MP Joginapally Santosh Kumar. The actor donated Rs 2 crore to the Forest Department Officials for the conservation of the area.
