Equitas Small Finance Bank has partnered with Google Pay to offer Fixed Deposits (FD). As per the bank, opening an FD will be as effortless as making UPI payments. The users can schedule an FD via Google Pay under the 'Business and bills' section. Reportedly, the bank will provide up to 6.35% yearly interest rates on an FD. After maturity, the money will be sent to google's affiliated account.

Messaging giant Whatsapp has added a new feature that aids people to choose payment background while doing transactions. “With Payments Backgrounds, our effort is to bring excitement to everyday payments through WhatsApp and enable our users to express themselves if they wish,” said Mahesh Mahatme, Director of Whatsapp payment. The feature is similar to GooglePay where the user can avail backgrounds while doing money transactions.

With a 7% hike, over 968.7 million UPI transactions were done through digital payment app PhonePe in January. The app, leaving behind its competitor Google Pay, processed a total value of Rs 1.92 trillion. Moreover, 42% of the total Unified Payments Infrastructure (UPI) transactions were made through the app. However, the transactions on Google Pay showed a slight decline processing 853.5 million (37%) UPI transactions.
According to the NPCI, online payments operators Google Pay and PhonePe have jointly accounted for about 81% of the total digital transactions in October. While the Google Pay logged UPI transactions worth Rs 1,65,654.71 crore, PhonePe registered transactions worth Rs 1,68,085.06 crore. Google has announced a new feature for "Google Pay", which lets the users to add their NFC-powered credit and debit cards as a payment method, apart from the existing bank account option. Google Pay offers "tap-and-pay" functionality for NFC-enabled terminals, encouraging touch-less payments using a smartphone. The feature will be running in India as Google have partnered with Axis Bank and SBI bank.
