Leopard Kills 2 Kids; Shimla Locals Demand To Declare It 'Man-eater'

Locals in Uttarakhand's Shimla under the banner of ''Shimla Nagrik Sabha'' demanded from the forest department to declare a leopard which hunted two children within three months a ''man-eater''. They also said that the government should also provide ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each to the victim's family. It'll be declared a ''man-eater'' after the physical test of the leopard, said Anil Thakur, Principal Chief Conservator.

Forest Official's Team Kills 'Maneater' Leopard In Uttarakhand

An eight-year-old leopard declared a ''maneater'', was shot down by a team of three shooters in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag on July 26. Reportedly, the leopard had dragged a toddler girl from her house yard on July 25, however, the body hasn't been found yet. According to shooter Joy Hukil, the leopard was killed during rescue efforts. Notably, 19 people and seven big cats have died so far in the state.

MP: Escaping Fire Leopard Jumps Over Transformer, Dies Of Electrocution

A leopard was reported dead after jumping over a power transformer in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh. Reportedly, the big cat was roaming in an agricultural land in search of food while the stubble caught fire and it jumped onto a power transformer and died of electrocution. However, the forest officials after post-mortem dumped the dead carcass as per the National Tiger Conservation Authority guidelines.

Man-Animal Conflict: Leopard Kills 75-Yr-Old Farmer In Gujarat's Amreli

In yet another man-animal conflict, a leopard killed a 75-year-old farmer in Gujarat’s Amreli district. Kerala: Forest Officials Book 5 For Killing, Eating Leopard In Idukki

Kerala forest officials on January 22 arrested five people in Idukki for killing a leopard and consuming its meat. The officials also recovered 10 kilogram of uncooked meat and body parts of the leopard from the accused. Leopard Population In India Soars By Over 60%; Highest In MP

A recently released report ‘Status of Leopard in India' has shown a significant growth in the number of big cats. Released by Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar, the report highlighted that Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of leopards (3,421) in the country, followed by Karnataka (1,783) and Maharashtra (1,690). Maharashtra: 60% Rise In Leopard Deaths; Man-Animal Conflict Tripled

Maharashtra Forest Department has recorded 174 leopard deaths in 2020, a 60% increase from the last year. Of the total 174 leopard deaths, 85 died naturally, 64 succumbed to accidents and 18 cases of poaching were registered till December, 2020. 7-Year-Old Killed By Leopard In Madhya Pradesh

In a horrific incident, a 7-year-old girl has been killed by a leopard in Madhya Pradesh's Sehore district. Reportedly, the girl Vandana had been playing outside her residence before the leopard abducted her. The efforts from villagers went in vain as the child was dead before the leopard escaped. The deceased's family has been given an immediate grant of Rs 10,000 and will be given Rs 4 lakh as relief fund.
