Congress MP Moves Adjournment Notice Over Fuel Price Hike

Concerned about rising fuel prices, Congress MP Manickam Tagore moved adjournment motion notice, demanding discussion over hike in fuel prices, in Lok Sabha. Notably, after approximately four months, petrol, diesel and LPG cylinder prices were increased again by 80 paise. This is the third consecutive day that prices have increased in India. Also, prices of PNG gases were also increased.

Punjab CM Designate Bhagwant Mann Resigns As Lok Sabha MP

In order to become Punjab CM, AAP's CM face Bhagwant Mann resigned as the Lok Sabha MP, on March 14.  As per ANI, he submitted his resignation to the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, in Delhi. Mann has been MP from the Sangrur parliament constituency, in Punjab. However, after winning the MLA seat from Dhuri. "I will miss this house. Punjab has given me huge responsibility" said Mann.

Parliament Budget Session To Resume With COVID-19 Restrictions

With limited seatings and COVID-19 protocols, the Union Budget Session 2022-2023, is to resume from March 14. The Government of India, will continue the second phase of the budget session with media restrictions, seating limitations, with 138 MPs sittings and 282 MLAs sittings, whereas remaining members will be arranged to sit in galleries, for the two houses (Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha) sessions. The session will continue till April 8.

Attempts of Self-harm Reported Outside Lok Bhawan In Lucknow

A 40-year-old man claiming to be a worker of the Samajwadi Party attempted self-immolation on March 10. The incident happened in the afternoon, outside the Lok Bhawan in Lucknow, UP. Police identified the man as Narendra Singh, from Kanpur who also recited political slogans before that. The man splashed himself with inflammable material and set himself on fire, said the police.

President Kovind Gives Assent, Allows Govt To Spend Extra Rs 3.73 Lakh Cr

In a relief to the Central Government, President Ram Nath Kovind gave assent to the act, allowing additional Rs 3.73 lakh crore expense in FY 2021-2022. The Appropriation Act 2021, authorises the Government to spend extra money for grants and expenses. Passed in Rajya and Lok Sabha during the Winter Parliament session, the act was approved by President Kovind On January 12 and Gazette notification was released on January 14.

Veteran JD(U) Leader Mahendra Prasad Dies At 81

Mahendra Prasad, a seven-term Rajya Sabha MP from Bihar and industrialist, passed away at the age of 81, on December 27. He was reportedly died due to age-related issues. He was associated with Bihar CM Nitish Kumar led Janata Dal (United) and became a Lok Sabha member once in 1980. ''His demise is a big loss to the society and politics besides industry,'' said Kumar.

President Kovind Gives Assent To Surrogacy (Regulation) Act 2021

President Ram Nath Kovind, on December 25, gave assent to the Surrogacy (Regulation) Act 2021, with immediate effect. The bill was passed by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on December 8 and 17, respectively. As per the bill, surrogacy only based on altruistic, without any money involved other than medical expenses and insurance during pregnancy. Therefore, surrogacy should not be commercial.

Govt Agrees To Send Prohibition Of Child Marriage Bill To Standing Committee

The government agreed to send the Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill, 2021 to the Standing committee on December 21. The decision came after the constant demand of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, said Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. The bill demands to increase the marriage of women to 21 from 18 years. Reportedly, Minister for Woman and Child Development Smriti Irani introduced the bill in the house.

Lok Sabha Passes Bill To Link Aadhaar With Electoral Roll Data

The government has planned to link the electoral roll data with Aadhaar as the Lok Sabha passed the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill 2021, on December 20. It was presented by Law Minister Kiren Rijiju and passed by a voice vote. However, it was passed amid the uproar in the house by opposition members over the Lakhimpur Kheri violence issue. Rijiju said that it'll make the election system more transparent.
