The elections for the new President of Sri Lanka is underway in the Island nation, on July 20. Ranil Wickremesinghe, Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Dullas Alahaperuma are in the fray, whereas 255 members of the Parliament house are eligible to vote for the next President of Sri Lanka. Notably, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the former President of Sri Lanka resigned amid the ongoing protest against the worst economic crisis in Sri Lanka.
To discuss the passing of bills in Rajya Sabha several BJP MPs did not turn up for the meeting on August 9. The Election Commission (EC) on October 13 announced the election dates for 11 Rajya Sabha seats, which are set to expire on November 25. The elections will be held on November 9, between 9 am to 4 pm, followed by the counting of votes from 5 pm. The nominations for the same will have to be filed by October 27. The 11 seats include 10 from Uttar Pradesh and one from Uttarakhand.
