Odisha Tourism Opens Bookings For 'Eco Retreat' Festival

Odisha government on November 11 has opened the bookings for the state Tourism’s flagship festival, Eco Retreat. The three-month festival, expected to be held from December 8 to February 28, 2021, will be organized in view of the last year's success. Odisha: 9 Injured In Bhubaneswar In An Explosion As Tank Catches Fire

A tank with compressed natural gas at a petrol pump caught fire and exploded near governor house in Odisha's Bhubaneswar on October 7. It took two hours to control the fire and nine people have been injured in the incident. According to eyewitnesses the massive explosion felt like an ‘earthquake’ and several nearby buildings were damaged. Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has announced free treatment for the people injured in explosion.

Odisha Artist Makes Sand Sculpture To Commemorate 'World Tourism Day'

Odisha-based artist Manas Kumar, made a sand sculpture of famous tourist spots to celebrate the 'World Tourism Day'. Reportedly, the sculpture which came up on the Marine Drive Beach in Puri took about five hours for completion and was themed 'Travel and Revel'. Previously, Manas had also made sculptures promoting the use of masks and sanitizers. With such sculptures, he wishes to promote tourism and spread awareness.

Odisha CM Requests Centre to Confer 'Classical' Status to Odissi Music

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik on September 25 wrote to the Centre, requesting 'classical' status to Odissi music. He stated that Odissi music records back to the second century BC and has an individuality of its own (own core raga and tala), different from Hindustani and Karnatak music; and claimed it meets all the requirements to be conferred the status. The Odisha cabinet had approved the proposal regarding this notice.

Odisha Floods: State takes "Expeditious Steps", Announces Relief Package

Chief Minister of Odisha on August 31 announced that flood victims in the state will get 50 kg of rice and Rs 500 as a relief measure. Besides, those who have been living in shelters will be provided cooked/dry foods under immediate assistance. The CM also announced that house damage assistance, as per the SDRF rules, will also be given to the victims.
