India COVID-19 Cases At 22 Lakhs With 2.85 Lakh New Cases: India

India COVID-19 cases increased again, after reporting below 2.50 lakh cases. On January 26, the Union Health Ministry confirmed 2,85,914 fresh cases  and 2,99,073 recoveries. There are 22,23,018 active cases with 16.6% positivity rate and 3,73,70,971 recovered cases with 93.17% recoveries. Death toll with 665 deaths stood at 4,91,127. China Records 57 New Confirmed COVID-19 Cases

Omicron Enters Community Transmission Stage In India: Reports

Omicron, the new variant of COVID-19, is in community transmission stage, confirmed reports. According to the experts, most of the cases are being reported in metro cities like Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad. Currently, India has over 10,000 cases of Omicron, however, over 3.33 lakh COVID cases were recorded in the last 24 hours. Moreover, India is reportedly the second worst COVID-19 hit nation, after the USA.

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu Tests Positive For COVID-19

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, on January 23, tested positive for COVID-19. The Vice President's official handle took to Twitter and confirmed the news. Venkaiah Naidu is in Hyderabad and is under self isolation. He urged people who came in contact with him to get tested. Earlier in the day, Mr Naidu paid floral tribute to Subhas Chandra Bose on his 125th birth anniversary.

India Logs 3.37 Lakh New COVID-19 Cases; Daily Positivity Rate Stands At 17.22%

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, on January 22, said that India reported 3,37,704 new COVID-19 cases, 2,42,679 recoveries and 488 deaths in the last 24 hours, which is 9,550 cases less than January 21. India's Omicron tally has climbed to 10,050. Notably, the daily positivity rate in the country stands at 17.22%. Moreover, as of now, 4,06,33,023 vaccine doses have been administered to 15-18 years aged people.

Kerala Reports Over 46,000 Fresh COVID-19 Cases

Continuing the rise in COVID-19 cases, Kerala Health Department confirmed the highest single day spike, over 46,387 fresh cases on January 20. Besides, the state reported 15,388 recoveries and 32 fatalities in the past 24 hours. With the new cases, Kerala currently has 1,99,091 active cases and 55,501 deceased. Meanwhile, a total of 1,337 people were hospitalized for COVID-19 treatment.

IIT Professor Analyses COVID-19 & Omicron; Says, Cases Will Peak By Next Week

Manindra Agarwal, an IIT professor, shared his analysis of spread of COVID-19 and its variant, Omicron in 2022. He said, the virus, which is possibly is in its third wave, is expected to peak in major states like Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Kerala by next week. He also listed reasons for the massive surge, which could be less immune population and casual attitude towards pandemic.
