Punjab Education Minister To Provide Free Uniforms To Government School Students
For the academic year 2022-23, Punjab Education Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that his department will provide free uniforms to 15,49,192 government school pupils from Grades 1 to 8. The education department has issued a grant of Rs 92.95 crore for students. The school management committees (SMCs) will distribute the free uniforms. Education authorities were told by the minister not to buy uniforms from any specific store.

Odisha School Timings Revised Amid Heatwave
Schools in Odisha have reopened with revised timings, as per the state government instructions, thanks to concerns over ongoing heatwaves in the region. The Odisha education department announced on 1st May, "Keeping the current scenario of heatwave into consideration, the teaching hours for all schools have been rescheduled." The school hours in the state will now be from 6:00 AM till 9:00 AM.

A Bangalore official recently visited the Clarence High School amid reports that the school authorities have been forcing the Bible on their students. Jerry George Mathew, the school principal, has insisted that it is a law-abiding and peace-loving school community. He acknowledged that the school policy has ignited a huge controversy. He shared that the school has consulted their advocates regarding this matter.

'No Need To Shut Schools,' Say Experts Amid COVID-19 Surge
ICMR Additional DG, Dr Samiran Panda, has opined that there is no need to shut schools over a spike in Covid-19 cases. He also stated that children are not the drivers of the Covid-19 spread. He further stressed that school closures negatively affect children. Dr Chandrakant Lahariya, an epidemiologist and physician, also noted that Covid-19 tends to be mild or asymptomatic in most children.

Students, Teachers Attend Fire Safety Week In Panvel, Uran: Maharashtra
As many as 600 students and 25 faculty members observed the National Fire Safety Week event organised at NAD Kendriya Vidyalaya Karanja this past week. The students and teachers were taught about some fire prevention measures with live demos by the fire brigade personnel of the CISF Unit ONGC, Mumbai. Towards the end of the event, a quiz was held on the topic of fire safety measures.

Textbook Lists Shocking Merits Of Dowry System, Surfaces
An image of a page from a book lists out the "merits and advantages" of the dowry system, in a post that has now gone viral. The book is, as per media reports, reading material for nursing students and apparently, its cover mentions that the book is written as per the Indian Nursing Council syllabus. Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan called to act immediately.

CBSE 10th Term-1 Result 2021 Declared, Confirms Official
The CBSE has declared the result of the Class 10 term-1 examination 2021. "Only the scores, in theory, have been communicated as internal assessment or practical scores are already available with the schools," the official said. Earlier, in 2021, CBSE had decided to conduct board examinations 2022, in two terms. Notably, the date sheet for the Term-2 has been announced and will start on April 26.

Section 144 Imposed In Areas Around All High Schools In Udupi
The administration imposed Section 144 of CrPC in areas around all high schools in Udupi from February 14 till 19. As per reports, All sorts of gatherings including protests and rallies are banned, also, Inciting slogans and speeches are strictly barred. The order is applied within a 200-metre radius of high schools. Notably, the decision was taken by the state government in view of the hijab-saffron shawl controversy.

Tamil Nadu Announces COVID-19 Relaxation, Allows Resuming Primary Classes

UP Schools For All classes & Offices To Resume From February 14
In view of declining coronavirus cases, the Uttar Pradesh government announced to open schools and offices in the state. In addition, private and government offices, gyms, restaurants, and cinema halls are permitted to function at full capacity, with adherence to COVID-19 protocols. However, Swimming pools and water parks will remain closed. Notably, Uttar Pradesh recorded 2,321 fresh Covid-19 cases and 13 deaths in the last 24 hours.
