The Union Cabinet, on December 15, approved Rs 76,000 crore for designing & manufacturing of semiconductor chips in India. Launched to enhance display manufacturing ecosystem, it will bring about a $5 trillion economy by 2025. The project will reportedly have effect on various sectors including electronics field. "In the next six years we will reach USD 300 billion in electronic and manufacturing," said Union Minister Anurag Thakur. 

The Union Cabinet has approved the Model Tenancy Act, 2021 that aims to modify the legal framework of rental housing across India. Consisting 47 sections and two schedules, the act focuses upon securing the "interests and rights of both the landlord and tenant" by making tenancy agreement compulsory. The government, through this act, eyes to move towards fulfillment of PM Narendra Modi's vision of 'Housing for All' by 2022.

Yielding to Puducherry's current Lieutenant General Tamilisai Soundarajan's recommendation, the Union Cabinet has agreed to impose President's rule in the union territory. The Union government has released Rs 22,810 crore tranche under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Rojgar Yojana to create new job opportunities. Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar has said that the government, under this scheme, plans to bear the employee and employer contributions to the retirement fund on new hirings by businesses and organizations.
