African Swine Fever Reported in Wayanad, Kerala; State Government Takes Preventive Measures
After African swine flu was discovered in two farms in Wayanad, Kerala, the state government took precautionary measures on July 22. Kerala Minister for Animal Husbandry J Chinchu Rani urged pig farms to rigorously enforce biosecurity and waste disposal mechanisms. The Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009 has been implemented in Kerala, effectively outlawing the import and export of pigs.
