China Renovates Mosques, Changes Nameplates to Chinese
Chinese authorities have removed the domes and minarets of Nanguan Mosque in Ninxia province and whitewashed the building. The images went viral after British diplomat in China, Christina Scott tweeted the images with a “depressing” remark. Prohibiting visitors, the name of the mosque at the entrance has been rewritten in Chinese. Known for suppressing religious-minorities including Christianity and Uyghur Muslims, a similar change was also made to a mosque in Linxia.
