Govt To Check Over-The-Counter Sale Of Veterinary Drugs To Conserve Vultures
Releasing the “Action Plan for Vulture Conservation 2020-2025”, the Environment Ministry has decided to regulate the over-the-counter sale of veterinary non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The misuse of the banned painkiller has hindered the vulture conservation efforts. Vultures have neared extinction due to eating cattle carcasses that were once treated with painkiller Diclofenac. Also, the government has planned to create at least one "Vulture Safe Zone" in each state.
