Belarus Protest: Maria Kalesnikava detained at Ukraine Border
On September 8, Belarus' opposition leader Maria Kalesnikava was detained at the Ukraine border. She is one of the top faces of the mass protest raged against Alexander Lukashenko's election as president in August. The outcry started after Lukashenko's re-election extending his 26-year rule amid vote-rigging allegations. The government cracked down during the protests on September 6, arresting over 600 people. Reportedly the regime’s suppression started pre-elections, imprisoning one ex-banker and a political blogger.
