Defence Ministry Plans To Curb Imports To Military Shops
According to reports, the Defence Ministry has passed an internal order which prohibits "procurement of direct imported items" to over 4,000 military shops. Reportedly, the order does not specify any product and is issued to support domestic goods. The military shops make annual sales of about $2 billion, out of which 6-7% is attributed to imported products. Experts opine the order would affect the liquor imports, which contribute to approximately $17 million in annual sales.
