Election Commission Removes Bengal's Top Police Officer Before Polls
The Election Commission on February 27 replaced West Bengal ADG Police (law and order) Jawed Shamim with 1991-batch IPS Jag Mohan. Mohan will also be the state police nodal officer. Notably, hours before the decision, some BJP leaders had met Chief Electoral Officer Ariz Aftab and requested him to remove "biased" officers for "free and fair" elections. Earlier, the Election Commission announced dates for the 8-phase West Bengal Assembly polls, starting from March 27.
