Malaysia Proclaims Emergency; Dissolves Parliament Over COVID Surge
Amidst coronavirus surge, Malaysian King Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah acceded to PM Muhyiddin Yassin's request to declare a national emergency until August 1. Offering the government power to acquire hospitals and deploy the military, the crown has revealed that no fresh election will be held for the time being. Moreover, PM Yassin agreed to face elections after the pandemic. Reportedly, this is the first emergency in the last 52 years.
