UN Alarms World Over Loss of 100 million Hectares of Forests In Two Decades
The UN's Food and Agriculture Organization reported a loss of nearly 100 million hectares of forests in two decades. It indicated that Sub-Saharan African and Southeast Asian forests suffered major losses. It also noted the agriculture and animal-husbandry as major reasons for deforestation in less developed nations like Ivory-Coast, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brazil. On the contrary, China, France, Britain, Canada and Australia have shown positive signs of expanding forest cover.
