Mother, Son Die In Tragic Road Accident In Chennai's Sriperumbudur
In Chennai's Sriperumbudur, two persons lost their lives in a tragic road accident, on June 12. Ravishankar (45), wife Rajeshwari (40) and mother Geetha (65), were returning from a marriage function, and Ravishankar lost control and rammed into a small bridge on the roadside. Ravishankar and his mother passed away, while his way is reportedly undergoing treatment at a government hospital.

Tamil Nadu Govt Asks Panel To Draft Distinctive State Education Policy As Alternative To NEP
The DMK-led Tamil Nadu government has asked the 13-member panel headed by Justice D Murugesan, to draft a distinctive state education policy. The distinctive state education policy will be introduced as an alternative for the National Educational Policy (NEP), opposing the three-language formula and entrance exams for all UG courses. The panel is asked to submit recommendations within one year, and to keep in mind the youths of the state.

Chennai Resident Launches E-Scooter Manufacturing Company After Facing Rejection For Physical Disability
Naidhroven, a 25-year-old Chennai resident, was rejected by companies due to his physical disabilities. He built an electric scooter to help other individuals with impairments. He received the biggest grant ever provided to any applicant, Rs 25 lakh, for his concept. His scooter has a very reasonable range of up to 120 kilometres. Buyers can select from a variety of battery capacities ranging from 60 kilometres to 200 kilometres.

Cyclone Asani Continues To Disrupt Flight Services In Chennai & Vishakapatnam
Ranjith Bhasha, Collector of Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district, warned seafarers from venturing into the sea, in wake of cyclone Asani, on May 11. He further informed that heavy rainfall is expected between Vishakapatnam and Kakinada. Flight operations have been halted on May 11, in Vishakapatnam and Chennai. Reportedly, a total of 17 flights have been cancelled in Chennai, for a second consecutive day.

Police Offered Bribe To Remain Silent, Says Vignesh's Brother: Chennai Custodial Death
Vinod, brother of V Vignesh (25) who died in police custody on April 19, said that the police offered him and his family Rs 1 lakh, as bribe to remain silent about the incident. He said that they weren't allowed to see Vignesh's body after post-mortem. "There were wounds on my brother's body," said Vinod. Reportedly, Vignesh and his friends were arrested for possession of drugs in Chennai's Kellys area.

AIADMK Workers Stage Protest Against Hike In Property Tax: Tamil Nadu
AIADMK members led by party coordinator O Panneerselvam, staged a protest in Chennai's Valluvar Kottam area, against the hike in property tax announced by the Tamil Nadu Government. The DMK-led government, on April 3, announced a revision in the property tax rates, with an increase of up to 150%, reported ANI. The move which was reportedly aimed to increase funds for the local bodies, triggered agitation from the opposition.

MS Dhoni Steps Down As CSK Captain, Passes Torch To Jadeja
Mahendra Singh Dhoni stepped down as the captain of team Chennai Super Kings and passed over the torch to fellow veteran Ravindra Jadeja. Mahendra Singh Dhoni has has led the team in twelve seasons of IPL including four title wins and five runner-up finishes. "Jadeja who has been an integral part of CSK since 2012, will only be the third player to lead CSK," read a statement released by CSK.

Apple is planning to start the production of iPhone 13 in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. In addition, Apple's parent company Foxconn is currently making iPhone 12 in Sriperumbudur. The Sriperumbudur plant was closed in December 2021 after 250 workers fell ill with food poisoning. After which, the company had implemented necessary safety measures and fixed loopholes to re-open it in 2022.

Chennai Students Protest Over Karnataka Hijab Row After Verdict

Chennai's newly appointed mayor R Priya extended her greetings to CM M K Stalin on March 4, after taking oath. "I am a Dalit Woman and the CM has given me the position of Mayor of Chennai Corporation. I am thankful to him," Priya said.
