UK Suspends Flights From 6 African Countries; New Covid Variant
Owing to the emergence of a new COVID variant with more than 30 mutations, the UK Health Secretary Sajid Javid on November 26 announced a temporary suspension of flights from six African countries. The UK has also decided to put the six countries on the red list. The new variant has been named B.1.1.529. ''The variant includes a large number of spike protein mutation,'' said UK Health Security Agency.

India Reports 798 Doctors' Deaths In The Second Wave of COVID-19
Indian Medical Association (IMA) has confirmed the death of 798 doctors during the second wave of COVID-19 in India, as per its official report released on June 29. Delhi reported a total of 128 deaths, followed by Bihar at 115 and UP at 79. Whereas, Puducherry reported the lowest count with only one death. The devastating news has come two days before India celebrates National Doctors Day on July 1.

Centre Calls For Investigation Into Floating Corpses In Ganga In Bihar
The Jal Shakti Ministry on May 11 asked the states concerned to "take immediate cognizance" of the floating corpses in Ganga. Calling out for an investigation, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said, "The incident of corpses found floating in Ganga in Buxar region of Bihar is unfortunate." Meanwhile, Buxar SDO KK Upadhyay said that they have made the arrangements to cremate the corpses, which were about 10-12 in numbers.

Jharkhand CM Faces Backlash From BJP Over 'Mann Ki Baat' Remark On PM
Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren was flayed by the BJP for his controversial comments on PM Narendra Modi's interaction with several state chief ministers on May 6. Soren termed the meeting as Modi’s 'Mann ki Baat' and said ‘it would have been better had he listened to, and spoken on important matters.’ Union Minister Harsh Vardhan criticized Soren on his statements and reminded of the Centre-state relations in handling pandemic.

Delhi HC Asks Centre To Review GST On Oxygen Concentrators
The Delhi High Court on May 6 asked the Centre to reconsider imposing GST on oxygen concentrators and exempt them from GST. The HC appointed senior counsel Arvind Datar as amicus curiae to help the court. Reportedly, the Centre citing its incapability failed to accept court’s May 5 order to refrain 12% GST on oxygen concentrators. The petitioner, in this case, mentioned Article 21 to raise concern on tax.

India To Resume Operations Of UK Flights From January 8
Clearing the doubts over the resumption of flights from the UK, India's Civil Aviation Ministry on January 1 stated the operations would resume from January 8. However, number of flights to and from the UK have been curtailed. Pay Cuts, Job Loss Force 46% Indians To Borrow Money During COVID: Report
A Home Credit India's report has indicated that pay cutoffs and job losses during the COVID-19 have forced around 46% of Indians to borrow money to run their households. The percentages were as high as 27% in cities like Bhopal and Mumbai, followed by Delhi (26%). People however have leaned towards informal sources like friends and family to take loans as it would give them plenty of time to repay.

Belgium: COVID Positive Doctors Treat Patients To Support Medical System
Belgian Association of Medical Union's chief Dr Philippe Devos stated that they have requested COVID-19 positive doctors to treat patients to prevent the collapse of medical system.
