DDMA Issues Orders, Shuts Offices, Restaurants & Bars Amid COVID-19 Surge

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on January 11, decided not to impose lockdown in Delhi, but restrictions. India Begins Booster Shot Drive For Senior Citizens & Frontline Workers

Vaccination drive for COVID-19 booster shots for people above the age of 60 with comorbidities and front line workers, started in Delhi, from January 10. Taken with a gap of 39 weeks, it is a precautionary measure against COVID-19 surge and its new variant, Omicron. "We feel fine, there are no side effects, everyone should take the jab," said a woman, after taking the dose.

DDMA To Hold Meeting, Likely To Discuss Curbs & Restrictions Amid COVID Surge

Delhi Disaster Management Authority is going to meet on January 10, amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases and Omicron situation. The DDMA is expected to discuss the ongoing curbs and restrictions and decide more prevention measures to control the current situation including "total curfew" and others under "Graded Action Plan". Meanwhile, Delhi reported over 17,000 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours, making it the most affected region.

Arvind Kejriwal Recovers From COVID-19, Addresses Press Meet

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, who recently tested COVID positive, recovered from the virus. On January 9, he took to Twitter and posted a tweet in Hindi, which read, "After recovering from Corona, I am back at your service". Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal addressed a press conference at 12 noon, today and informed that Delhi Government is not planning any lockdown in the National Capital and asked people to follow safety protocols.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla emphasised on need of a "unified strategy" to tackle COVID-19 situation in Delhi. "Omicron variant being highly transmissible, hence no stone to be left unturned to deal with any surge in cases and immediate steps should be taken," said Bhalla, during a virtual meeting, on January 6. Delhi Reports 5,481 New COVID Cases, Highest Since May

Delhi continues to witness a rise in COVID-19 cases with 5,481 new cases, with a 8.37% positivity rate. Cases were confirmed after 65,487 tests. In addition, the national capital reported 3 deaths and 1,575 recoveries. Reportedly, this is the highest number of cases, reported since May 2021. With this, Delhi has 14,889 active cases. Furthermore, a total of 8,593 people are under home isolation and the rest are in hospital.

Delhi's cold wave has forced homeless people to take refuge at night shelters. Run by NGOs and Government, these shelter homes provide two times meal, hot water, medicines and other necessities to people. On January 3, these shelters were an escape for homeless people to fight the 7°C temperature outside. In addition, IMD predicted the temperature to fall in coming days with moderate rainfall.

Delhi's Air Quality Slips To 'Severe' Category With 431 AQI: SAFAR

Delhi's air quality has fallen into the "Severe" category, after reporting 430 AQI (Air Quality Index), said SAFAR on December 26. The situation worsened in 24 hours, from December 25's 398 AQI, which was "very poor" category to 430 AQI. In the past, the AQI of Delhi has been fluctuating, with efforts of Delhi Government and the Control Pollution Board to enhance it.
